The 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System provides an output voltage that is directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the observed conductive surface and can measure both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) values. The system’s primary applications are vibration and position measurements on fluid-film bearing machines, as well as Keyphasor reference and speed measurements. Core-to-core (R-core): Normal resistance should be between 0.1 Ω and 0.3 Ω (extremely low resistance, close to the conductor's own conductivity). If the measured resistance is > 1 Ω, it indicates a break in the internal core wire (on the edge of a micro-open circuit), which will cause unexplained fluctuations in the vibration signal and high-frequency spikes during machine operation.

Outer shield to outer shield (R-jacket): Normal resistance is usually < 0.1 Ω

Core-to-shield (insulation test): Measure the resistance between the core wire and the outer shell at the same end connector; the resistance must be ∞ (infinity). If resistance is present, it indicates that the cable has been compressed and deformed, causing a partial internal short circuit.

1. Insufficient Bending Radius (Cable Breakage): In preamplifier protection boxes or confined bearing housings, 0.5-meter cables are often bound tightly with cable ties by field personnel for aesthetic reasons.

Bentley officially specifies that the minimum bending radius for extension cables is 25.4 mm (1.0 inch). Forced bending can cause the outer shielding layer to pierce the inner insulation layer, resulting in a momentary short circuit. The control room will observe intermittent spikes in vibration values.

2. Loose Connector Protector: This model comes with a 02 connector protector. Under conditions of severe mechanical vibration, if the connector is not tightened by hand to a finger-tight state, the contact surface for high-frequency induction signals will be obstructed, and the DC gap voltage of the preamplifier will drift directly from the normal -9V to above -22V (open circuit state).
