Working Principle
A high-frequency current passes through a coil inside the probe, generating an alternating magnetic field around it (the probe tip).
When the metal shaft (conductor) being measured approaches this magnetic field, eddy currents are generated on the metal surface.
The magnitude of the eddy currents varies with the distance (gap) between the probe and the metal surface, causing a change in the coil impedance.
The preamplifier (proximitor sensor) converts this impedance (gap) change into a proportionally output DC/AC voltage signal (the standard gap voltage is typically set around -10V).
Main Applications
Radial Vibration Measurement: Monitors the dynamic movement (shaft vibration) of the rotor axis inside the bearing, preventing rubbing.
Axial Displacement Measurement: Monitors the axial movement of the rotor, preventing damage to thrust bearings and collisions between moving and stationary parts.
Speed and Keyphasor Measurement: Provides a phase reference signal (keyphasor) and precise speed by measuring the keyway or boss on the shaft.
