ABB FI830F, article number 3BDH000032R1, is a PROFIBUS-DP fieldbus master module for the Freelance AC 800F controller family. ABB identifies PM 802F and PM 803F as the associated processor units. The module supports PROFIBUS-DP V1 communication over an electrically isolated RS485 interface, at transmission rates up to 12 MBd and with support for up to 126 slaves.
The onboard 256 KB shared memory reduces demand on the basic unit memory. Configuration and parameterization are performed in Freelance. The front connection is a 9-pin female PROFIBUS connector; its 5 V auxiliary output is limited to 20 mA for bus termination or repeater supply, not for general field-device power. Active power consumption is listed as 2.8 W and depends on the communication cycle.
For an integration project or MRO spare, retain the PROFIBUS network configuration, slave definitions, station addresses and bus timing before replacement. Separate line redundancy using an external RLM 01 from redundant-master operation using a second AC 800F controller. Supplier acceptance should reconcile the offered article and hardware revision, inspect the connector and verify communication against the agreed system configuration before the spare is released for service.

The figure describes the module’s supported slave capacity. The physical installation must also satisfy the PROFIBUS segment, repeater, cable-length and selected-rate rules. Plan segment loading and topology separately from the master’s address capacity.
No general instrument supply is specified. ABB limits this output to 20 mA for bus termination or repeater supply. An instrument requiring more current or another voltage needs its specified external supply; do not overload the connector auxiliary pin.
FI830F uses the 9-pin female PROFIBUS connector shown on page 49. The 26-pin serial illustration at the top of page 48 belongs to the preceding module section. Use the FI830F-specific pinout rather than assigning adjacent-page connector details to this module.
An orange Status indication means AC 800F has identified the module but has not activated it. A green Busy indication means the module holds the token and is acting as master; Busy off indicates a passive bus state. Record both indicators before diagnosing a missing slave.
No. RLM 01 drives two parallel PROFIBUS lines for line redundancy. ABB separately describes redundant-master operation in conjunction with a second AC 800F. The network design must identify which redundancy layer is required.
ABB states that configuration and parameterization are performed completely in Freelance without an additional external configuration tool. Confirm that the project includes the required device definitions and compatible engineering environment; third-party slave-specific setup may still need its own documentation.
The 256 KB is shared memory on the fieldbus module, intended to reduce use of basic-unit memory for its communication role. It is not documented as a general increase in the controller’s application-program memory. Keep communication and application memory budgets separate.
The catalog says a G3-compliant Z variant is available. That does not establish that every standard 3BDH000032R1 unit has the Z variant’s environmental qualification. Specify the exact coated variant and obtain matching identification evidence when the environment requires it.
