The Multilin 489 integrates generator protection, monitoring, metering and event information for 25, 50 or 60 Hz installations. GE documents functions including stator differential, stator ground, negative-sequence, loss-of-excitation, overexcitation, reverse-power and thermal monitoring.
The order string is fully decoded from the official brochure. It is especially important not to describe this E-display unit as the T Ethernet version: the T option is the enhanced front panel with 10BaseT Ethernet.

The 489 is a legacy product. GE Vernova identifies the 889 as the alternative and offers a 489-to-889 retrofit kit; compare an exact spare with the engineered retrofit before the outage.
P1 specifies 1 A phase CT secondaries. The installed CT circuits and shorting arrangements must be checked before replacing the relay.
The official selection guide defines HI as 90–300 V DC or 70–265 V AC at 48–62 Hz.
A20 selects the 4–20 mA analog-output range. Receiving-loop scaling and isolation should be checked against the site drawings.
E is the enhanced display with a larger LCD and improved keypad. It is not the T option, which adds 10BaseT Ethernet to the enhanced front panel.
H specifies conformal coating for a harsh chemical environment. The replacement record should retain that suffix.
