The PROFIBUS Repeaters are designed to be used in optical PROFIBUS field bus networks according to IEC 61784 ED.1:2002 CPF3/1. They enable electrical PROFIBUS interfaces (RS 485 level) to be converted into optical PROFIBUS interfaces and vice-versa. By profiting from the familiar advantages of optical transmission technology, the repeaters can be integrated into existing PROFIBUS field bus networks. A complete PROFIBUS field bus network with repeaters in line, star or ring topology, and an arbitrary combination of these, can also be built up.

Technical Overview
Signal regeneration-The RH1-TP processes the signal shape and amplitude of the data received.
Housing-The housing consists of two plastic sections and a front panel made of metal. It can be mounted on a DIN rail.
Ports-Each repeater has two or three mutually independent channels (ports), which in turn consist of a transmitting and a receiving component. The electric channel is a 9-pole Sub-D socket (female). A PROFIBUS bus segment can be connected to this channel. The channels 2 and 3 are optical BFOC/2.5 (ST ®) sockets.
Glass fiber technology-The use of glass fiber transmission technology enables a very large transmission range and ensures optimal protection from EMC effects on the transmission path and – due to the potential separation – on the Repeater itself.
Power supply-The power supply is +24 V direct current. To improve the operating safety, a redundant operating power supply consisting of two separate sources can be used.

Q: What communication interfaces are available?
A: The G12 PRO version provides one electrical PROFIBUS interface through a 9-pin Sub-D connector and two optical channels using BFOC/2.5 (ST®) fiber optic connectors for network expansion.
Q: Does the repeater support redundant power input?
A: Yes. The device operates from 24 V DC and supports redundant power supplies using two independent power sources connected to the 7-pin terminal block. Internal diode isolation protects against reverse polarity and incorrect wiring.
Q: What diagnostic features are included?
A: Four multicolor LEDs indicate operating status, communication activity, optical channel condition, and fault information. Signal contacts and measuring outputs are also available for external monitoring systems.
Q: How is the repeater configured?
A: Configuration is completed using externally accessible DIL code switches. These switches allow adjustment of compatibility mode, operating mode, and optical transmitting power without additional software tools.
