ProSoft Technology MVI56-MCM is a two-port Modbus Master/Slave communication module that exchanges serial process data between a compatible 1756 chassis and Modbus field equipment.
Each application port can be configured for RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 operation and for Modbus RTU or ASCII messaging. A Master port supports up to 100 configured commands, while a Slave port supports software-selectable node addresses from 1 to 247.
Before replacement, preserve the ladder configuration, port mode, baud rate, parity, data and stop bits, slave addresses, command lists, database mapping and diagnostic records, then verify rack, slot, cabling, grounding and controlled communication tests.

ProSoft Technology MVI56-MCM exchanges Modbus serial data between a compatible 1756 chassis and configured field devices while transferring process data through the backplane.
ProSoft Technology MVI56-MCM supports Modbus RTU and ASCII operation through two application ports configurable for RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 wiring.
A ProSoft Technology MVI56-MCM port configured as a Modbus Master supports up to 100 commands, with function, slave address, register address and data count defined for each command.
ProSoft Technology MVI56-MCM must use the same baud rate, parity, data bits, stop bits, interface type and RTS timing as the connected Modbus devices.
ProSoft Technology MVI56-MCMR uses a reduced backplane data-block arrangement, so it should not replace ProSoft Technology MVI56-MCM until I/O mapping, configuration method, rack location and controller logic are reviewed.
Commission ProSoft Technology MVI56-MCM by restoring the approved ladder configuration, checking port wiring and status indicators, then proving every required command, slave response, data map and diagnostic condition.
