ABB RAIO-01 is an analogue I/O extension for ABB drives, providing two current-or-voltage inputs and two unipolar current outputs. ABB specifies compatibility with the ACS800 Standard Application Program ASXR7000 or later. Each input supports selectable unipolar or bipolar operation, while the outputs provide 0(4)–20 mA signals for external instrumentation. The module plugs into a drive RMIO option slot or an external AIMA-01 I/O Module Adapter, so the installed carrier and application-program version form part of the engineering selection.
The inputs have 100 Ω impedance in current mode and 200 kΩ in voltage mode. Unipolar input conversion uses 12 data bits; bipolar conversion uses 11 data bits plus a sign bit. Both analogue outputs have 12-bit resolution and a maximum load resistance of 700 Ω. ABB specifies ±0.5% full-scale-range inaccuracy at 25 °C and a maximum temperature coefficient of ±100 ppm/°C. The input group and output group are isolated from one another and from the module carrier. The 48 V rms continuous isolation limit must not be confused with the 1.5 kV AC, one-second chassis test.
For integration and MRO replacement, record the S2 input-mode settings, drive parameter assignments and the S1 node address when an AIMA-01 carrier is used. The 38-pin interface supplies both signals and the 5 V/24 V power rails; the fixing screws also complete important grounding connections. Supplier acceptance should include the RAIO-01 identity, enclosure and terminal condition, mounting hardware and a configuration-matched inspection record. Carry out installation and any required power cycle under the ABB drive safety instructions and the site-approved isolation procedure.

Preserve RAIO-01 input-mode switches, carrier type, drive parameter assignments and the AIMA-01 node address before replacement.
S1 is used when the module is on an external AIMA-01 adapter. Select the assigned node ID within 1–15; ABB gives 5 as the default. Node-ID setting is not required for a module fitted directly in RMIO SLOT 1 or SLOT 2. Record the carrier type before copying an address from an old spare.
Bipolar operation requires the drive parameters to agree with the S2 hardware setting. The drive firmware determines how the negative range is interpreted. Confirm the input assignment and mode in the applicable firmware manual; ABB states that new settings take effect only when the module is powered up. Arrange that restart through the approved drive isolation procedure.
The yellow LED is on while the drive configures the module. For an option-slot installation, ABB treats failure to extinguish after one second as a configuration or hardware problem. For an AIMA-01 installation, investigate drive communication, node addressing and fibre-optic connections as well as the seated 38-pin interface. Follow the drive safety instructions before touching connectors or cycling power.
No. ABB states that the screws also provide I/O cable-shield grounding and interconnect module and carrier GND signals. Correct screw installation is required for proper operation and EMC performance. A receiving checklist should therefore verify the correct mounting hardware, not just the presence of the circuit board.
The manual shows separate RC circuits for the input and output terminal blocks. The two SHLD terminals within each block share that block’s RC path to the frame. Preserve the documented shield arrangement; do not replace it with an assumed common direct-ground connection.
No. The chassis isolation test is 1.5 kV AC for one second. The published maximum continuous isolation voltage is 48 V rms, with a 100 V peak limit. Apply the working limits, including the ±15 V maximum input common-mode voltage, when reviewing connected instrumentation.
RAIO-01 receives both rails through its carrier connection. Maximum consumption is 100 mA at 5 V plus 120 mA at 24 V, supplied by RMIO or AIMA-01. A supplier test arrangement must account for that interface rather than assuming that an arbitrary external 24 V connection powers the complete module.
ABB names Standard Application Program ASXR7000 or later as compatible. Record the installed application-program identity and confirm its RAIO-01 parameter support, including Parameter Group 98 where applicable. A drive-family label alone does not establish that a particular custom application program will interpret the extension correctly.
